It was the week before the long weekend of Independence Day, and I had quite a backlog that I needed to get done before the break. I left to get to work early but little did I know what the morning had planned for me. It had been raining the last few days incessantly, and it was no different that day. Traffic lights weren’t working, and it seemed like the entire city was on the roads.

Traffic was at a slow snarl, and where I normally take 35-45 minutes, I was on the road for four hours. Four incredibly-boring, slow, pointless hours that I will never get back. I carried my foul mood into work and didn’t manage to finish what I’d planned.

I just wish I’d been smart about my personal task management that day and worked from home like I often do. It’s on days like these that I’m glad for the option of working from home. Do you?

Unfortunately, most organizations aren’t comfortable with the concept, which is understandable. Look at it from their perspective. The office environment is conducive to work, with its fixed hours and in the company of other employees. Compare to this to your home, filled with its myriad distractions.

Managers feel that left to themselves; employees could waste time. Instead of dedicating their work hours to, well, work, they could use it for running personal errands or spend more time on social media, or not be responsive enough.
